GPRS bearing performance improvement

Analysis cases for GPRS air-interface bearing performance improvement (2007, GZMCC&SZMCC)

Hantele designed GPRS bearing performance improvement service, breached the traditions, by digging, tracking and analysis the vast signaling data, which collected from the interfaces (Um, GPRS Abis, Gb, or even Gn &Gi at the higher layer) related to GPRS bearing services, helping the operators to analysis and allocate the network problem, find out the major factors that affects the performance, then raise an optimization proposal for improving the radio network quality.

Service  case::  Incorrect NS layer signaling severely affects the perception of data services users

【Problem description】
Upon analyzing the utilization of Gb interface, we found there are lots of forward congestion at the NS layer.  The congestion rate is more than 50%, even during the low valley hours of both voice and data traffic.  The high congestion at NS layer affects the handling ability and speed of SGSN, which caused response delays and poor data services performance.

【Analysis】
Hantele deep analysis of the Gb interface signaling found NS layer signaling parameter setting was incorrect at the Gb interface. Both FECN (forward congestion) and BECN (backward congestion) was set to “1” at the situation of non-congestion. The DE (mark for discardable )  was also set to “1”. The DE standard should be set to “0” accordingly.

【Solution】

This incorrect parameter setting was caused by the equipment vendor. The vendor solved the problem by loading software correction after they received the Hantele Fault Report.
